28.-31.10. and 1.12.2007: Comet 17P/Holmes from POR and LAC

Comet 17P/Holmes from POR, 28 October 2007 at 20:29 UTC.
Apochromat 200/1600, modified Canon EOS 5D, 8x 8s at ISO 800 & 8x 4s at ISO 400, FOV 25'.

Visual impressions (123x200, Ethos; 133x200, Binoviewer+Nagler; 215x280, Ethos):
- pseudo-nucleus and off-axis bright zone pinkish yellow, greatly subdued using Swan Band filter;
- coma generally grey with some brown or purple hues, total diameter of shell 6' with green-blue edges.
Naked-eye observation: 2.8 mag, almost stellar, white-yellow.

Celestron 11, modified Canon EOS 5D, 8x 8s at ISO 1600 & 8x 8s at ISO 800, FOV 35'.
Note extended blue outer coma, more visible than the day before.




Visual impressions (215x280, Ethos):
- coma generally grey with some brown or purple hues, total diameter of bright shell 8' with blue edges.
- naked-eye observation: 2.4 mag, fuzzy, whitish.
